Wix Privacy Policy

The Washington Political Film Foundation website was created using the Wix website builder.  It is hosted by Wix and data that is required to maintain its functionality and store User or "User of Users'" information is maintained on Wix servers.  You can review the Wix Privacy Policy here: https://www.wix.com/about/privacy

Our Policies

Legal developments in the European Union and in the United States now require the use of privacy policies for some websites.  The main concern is protecting personal information that may be obtained and used or misused by commercial entities or by governments without the knowledge and consent of the individual web visitor.

The driving force behind many of the changes to Internet privacy law is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), an extensive set of requirements put into effect to protect the privacy rights of residents of European Union (EU) member countries.  It became effective on May 25, 2018.  The GDPR does not make an exception for European non-profits and they are held to the same standards as for profit entities.  You can read the regulation yourself by following this link:  https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=celex%3A32016R0679

There has been a tremendous amount of commentary and analysis about the GDPR which is easily found through an online search.  As to its impact and potential application to US-based educational institutions and non-profits, here are several overviews:

In the United States, the State of California has passed legislation similar in nature to the GDPR, if not as broad, identified in short as CalOPPA and CCPA.  Both laws apply to "commercial enterprises" and "for profit" businesses.  Here is a brief comparison of the two California

laws:  https://www.termsfeed.com/blog/ccpa-vs-caloppa/

The Washington Political Film Foundation is a US-based, non-profit, public charity with an educational mission.  As such we are neither a commercial enterprise or a for profit business entity.   However, the Washington Political Film Foundation has adopted the Privacy and Cookie Policies displayed below in the interests of transparency, good governance, and compliance with the spirit of these laws and regulations.  We endorse and support the emphasis on protecting the privacy of individuals wherever they reside.

Google Analytics was integrated into our website through the use of Wix integration tools that are provided as options for Wix website creators using the Wix website builder.  We integrated Google Analytics into our website so that we could better determine whether our outreach to college and university communities was successful over time. You can choose to opt out of Google Analytics, however (see below: Analytics / Google Analytics).

Cookies are used on our website because these seem to be necessary for optimal functionality but we are not using information to sell advertising or cross-market to other organizations.  Whatever cookie placement occurs happens without our active involvement but as part of the background functionality of our website.

For our Privacy and Cookie Policies we used suggested privacy and cookie explanations and descriptions provided by TermsFeed, an online provider whose website address is here: https://www.termsfeed.com/
